Erst vor wenigen Tagen wurde bekannt, dass Apple demnächst 15 Spiele aus seinem monatlich € 4,99 teuren Apple Arcade entfernen wird. Welche Auswirkungen genau mit dem Verschwinden der Spiele aus Apple Arcade einhergehen werden, war zunächst unklar. Die Kollegen von MacRumors konnten lediglich in Erfahrung bringen, dass Apple zum Start von Apple Arcade mit diversen Entwicklern Verträge abschloss, die über drei Jahre laufen sollten. Einige dieser Verträge laufen nun aus und sind von Apple schlicht nicht verlängert worden. Da die Rechte an den Spielen nach wie vor bei den Entwicklern liegen, steht es ihnen frei, was mit ihnen nach dem Aus bei Apple Arcade geschieht. Nun hat sich Apple doch dazu entschieden, für offizielle Aufklärung zu sorgen und ein entsprechendes Support Dokument zu dem Thema zu veröffentlichen.

Darin heißt es, dass Apple Arcade Nutzer, die ein Spiel vor dessen Entfernung aus dem Dienst geladen haben, dieses im Anschluss daran noch mindestens zwei Wochen lang nutzen können. Anschließend erscheint eine Meldung, dass das betroffene Spiel nicht mehr zur Verfügung steht. Prinzipiell können die Entwickler ihre Spiele anschließend ganz regulär und für alle Nutzer verfügbar in den AppStore einstellen oder auf einer anderen Plattform veröffentlichen. Apple weist in diesem Fall darauf hin, dass sich diese Version von der in Apple Arcade unterscheiden und beispielsweise auch Werbung oder In-App Käufe enthalten können.

In Bezug auf bestehende Spielstände aus Apple Arcade Zeiten müssen die jeweiligen Entwickler aktiv werden und eine Möglichkeit schaffen, die Spielstände zu transferieren. Andernfalls müssten die Spieler, wenn sie das Spiel regulär aus dem AppStore laden, das Spiel von vorne beginnen.
