iPhone, iPad und MacBook: Klappbare OLED-Displays scheinen der Trend der Zukunf zu sein

Das Thema der klappbare Display scheint der Trend zu sein, in dessen Richtung es in den kommenden Jahren gehen wird. Aktuell berichten die Kollegen von The Elec, dass Apple und LG aktuell gemeinsam an einem klappbaren OLED-Display arbeiten, bei dem eine ultradünne Glasoberfläche zum Einsatz kommt und das künftig in einem iPad oder MacBook verbaut sein könnte. Angeblich soll LG Display noch in diesem Jahr ein faltbares 17" 4K OLED Panel an HP liefern, wo es in einem Notebook eingesetzt werden soll, welches im geschlossenen Zustand ein 11"-Display aufweist und dann auf 17" aufgeklappt werden kann. Bei LG Display hat man bereits Erfahrung mit der Technologie und lieferte unter anderem bereits das faltbare 13,3"-Panel für das Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold.

Erst kürzlich hatte auch der renommierte Display-Analyst Ross Young berichtet, dass Apple mit klappbaren Displays bis zu einer Größe von 20" arbeiten würde. Dies könnte im Einklang mit dem aktuellen Bericht von The Elec stehen. Angeblich soll Apple damit eine neue Produktkategorie begründen wollen, die ein vollflächiges Display samt Touch-Tastatur bietet. Denkbar wäre in diesem Zusammenhang eine Erweiterung des iPad Pro, aber auch bei den MacBooks könnte diese Form des Displays eingesetzt werden. Als Zeitrahmen hatte Young 2026 oder 2027 ins Spiel gebracht.

Ergänzend zu dem Bericht von The Elec hat sich auch der Apple-Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo zu Wort gemeldet und berichtet, dass Apple zudem auch an einem klappbaren 9"-Display arbeiten würde, welches in einem künftigen iPhone zum Einsatz kommen könnte. Dieses sei aber auch nicht vor 2025 zu erwarten.Aktuell gehe es aber ohnehin vor allem darum, die technischen Möglichkeiten auszuloten. Auch Kuo glaubt, dass Apple die Technologie zunächst in größeren Produkten einsetzen wird, ehe man sie auf das iPhone überträgt.
