Am kommenden Freitag geht die neue Generation des iPad Air offiziell in den Verkauf und wird auch an die ersten Frühbesteller von vergangener Woche ausgeliefert. Passend dazu hat Apple nun das Embargo für die Reviews zu dem neuen Gerät aufgehoben, die sich seither ihren Weg ins Netz bahnen. Beim neuen iPad Air loben die Reviewer erwartungsgemäß vor allem die neue Leistungsfähigkeit dank des auch schon im iPad Pro verbauten M1 Chip, wodurch das neue iPad Air nun mit Apples Flaggschiff-iPad leistungstechnisch auf Augenhöhe ist. Dies wird unter anderem die Kollegen von The Verge positiv hervorheben. Für so wenig Geld bekommt man kein ähnliches Tablet mit so viel Power - zumal nun auch die 5G-Konnektivität mit an Bord ist. Wie CNET anmerkt, unterstützt das iPad Air dabei allerdings im Gegensatz zum iPad Pro keine mmWave sondern ausschließlich sub-6 5G-Netze.

Ebenfalls Thema in den Reviews ist die aufgewertete FaceTime-Kamera auf der Vorderseite, die nun nicht nur mit 12 Megapixeln auflöst, sondern auch Apples Center Stage Technologie unterstützt. Laut TechCrunch sind die Verbesserungen durchaus spürbar. Dies macht sich vor allem bei der Nutzung des iPad im Querformat bemerkbar, wenn sich die Kamera also an der linken oder rechten Seite befindet. Hier sorgt Center Stage nun dafür, dass der Protagonist während eines Videocalls stets in der Mitte des Bildes gehalten wird. Auch Farben und Kontrast sind durch die neue Kamera spürbar verbessert.

Die iPads waren schon vorher faktisch konkurrenzlos. Jetzt gibt es nur noch Marktbegleiter.

Auf der einen Seite ist das natürlich toll. Apple bietet eine Leistung, ein Komplettpaket, wie es seit mehr als acht Jahren nicht übertroffen werden kann.

Allerdings kostete das reguläre iPad früher nur 500€, weil Steve es "in vielen Händen sehen" wollte. Inzwischen sind wir bei 680€.

Und wer redet denn immer vom Chip?
Was ist mit USB-C, Pencil 2 Kompatibilität oder dem vollständig laminierten Display?

Mal davon abgesehen haben sich letzte Woche noch alle über das „altbackene“ Design des SE beschwert. Gehört das AllScreen-Design auch schon zu dem Potential, welches nicht viele ausnutzen werden?
