Amazon übernimmt Mesh-WLAN Hersteller eero

Ich hatte Apple in der Vergangenheit mehrfach dafür kritisiert, dass man seine AirPort-Produktreihe just zu dem Zeitpunkt einstellte, als der Markt der Mesh-WLANs und vor allem der Smart-Home-Produkte quasi explodierte. Wie man es besser macht, zeigt nun Konkurrent Amazon, der heute bekanntgab, dass man mit eero einen Hersteller für Mesh-WLAN Systeme übernommen hat. eero hat eine Reihe von verhältnismäßig günstigen und einfach einzurichtenden Mesh-Produkten im Portfolio, die Amazon nach eigener Aussage nun vor allem für Verbesserungen beim Einsatz der eigenen Smart-Home-Produkte nutzen möchte.

Apple hätte eine solche Ausrichtung und ein entsprechender Ausbau der AirPort-Produkte in Richtung Mesh-WLAN sicherlich ebenfalls gut zu Gesicht gestanden. Erst Recht vor dem Hintergrund des Ausbaus der eigenen HomeKit-Plattform. Aber wer weiß, vielleicht besinnt man sich in Cupertino ja doch noch eines Besseren und gewährt den AirPort-Produkten ein unverhofftes Comeback.
