Die Gerüchte vom Wochenende haben sich also tatsächlich bestätigt. Wie Apple inzwischen offiziell bestätigt hat, hat man den Musik-Erkennungsdienst Shazam übernommen. Die dabei geflossene Summe ist zwar (noch) nicht bekannt, dürfte den Kollegen von TechCrunch zufolge aber irgendwo bei um die 400 Millionen US-Dollar liegen. Damit wäre die Übernahme die für Apple zweitteuerste der Firmengeschichte nach dem Kauf von Beats im Jahr 2014.

Gegenüber verschiedenen US-amerikanischen Medien und Webseiten, unter anderem den Kollegen von MacRumors, äußerte sich Apple folgendermaßen zu der Übernahme:

We have exciting plans in store, and we look forward to combining with Shazam upon approval of today's agreement.

We are excited to announce that Shazam has entered into an agreement to become part of Apple. Shazam is one of the highest rated apps in the world and loved by hundreds of millions of users and we can't imagine a better home for Shazam to enable us to continue innovating and delivering magic for our users.

Vor allem zwei Fragen sind nun spannend. Erstens dürfte es natürlich interessant werden zu sehen, auf welche Weise Apple Shazam in die eigenen Produkte integrieren und den Dienst weiterentwickeln wird. Auf der anderen Seite steht Shazam auch auf anderen Plattformen, wie beispielsweise Android zur Verfügung. Ob dies auch nach der Übernahme der Fall sein wird, muss abgewartet werden.
