Stell dir vor, Italien ist Weltmeister und keine Sau interessiert's! Deutschland feiert in diesen Tagen nicht die Mannschaft, die Weltmeister geworden ist, nein, es feiert die Mannschaft, die Dritter geworden ist, den Weltmeister der Herzen, UNSERE Mannschaft! Und es feiert sich selbst und einen unvergesslichen Sommer. Aber liebe Italiener, seid herzlich eingeladen, ihr dürft mitfeiern! Das Finale selbst hätte eigentlich auch nach 20 Minuten abgepfiffen werden können.

Da hat nämlich Marco Materazzi die 1:0 Führung der Franzosen durch einen Elfmeter von Zidane ausgeglichen. Danach passierte nicht mehr wirklich viel. Auch nicht in der Verlängerung. Bis, ja bis zur 110. Minute. Jener Minute, in der die Karriere von Zinedine Zidane endete. Nicht etwa durch eine Auswechselung, auch nicht mit einem Sieg oder einer Niederlage. Nein, sie endete mit einer roten Karte, die er für einen Kopfstoß gegen Materazzi sah. Gegen jenen Spieler also, der ihn schon dadurch geärgert hatte, dass er seine Führung ausgeglichen hat. Der Rest ist Geschichte. Italien gewinnt das Elfmeterschießen gegen Frankreich durch einen verschossenen Strafstoß von David Trézéguet. Ganz nebenbei können wir uns wohl mächtig was darauf einbilden, dass Hannover neben Berlin die einzige Stadt ist, in der beide Finalteilnehmer ein Spiel ausgetragen haben. Glückwunsch, Italien! Aber ich bleibe auch heute dabei:
