Bereits seit einiger Zeit wird spekuliert, dass der Kurznachrichtendienst Twitter an einem kostenpflichtigen Angebot arbeiten soll. Während eines Events mit Analysten am gestrigen Abend hat das Unternehmen nun einen Teil dieses Plans enthüllt. Demzufolge wird es künftig eine neue Option namens "Super Follow" geben, für die im Monat 4,99 US-Dollar (bei einer jederzeit bestehenden Kündigungsmöglichkeit) fällig werden. Hierfür erhält man dann Zugriff auf exklusive Inhalte, Deals und weitere spezielle Angebote, die in der kostenlosen Twitter-Variante nicht zur Verfügung stehen. Vor allem Künstler und andere verifizierte Konten sollen hierüber die Möglichkeit bekommen, ihre Twitter-Aktivitäten zu monetarisieren. Damit tritt Twitter in direkte Konkurrenz zu bestehenden Angeboten wie Patreon oder OnlyFans. Einige Screenshots aus dem Angebot sind in den unten eingebetteten Tweets zu sehen.

Einen interessanten Gedanken bringt der Kollege Alex Heath von The Information ins Spiel. So werden aktuell viele Informationen von Twitter auch in der traditionellen Berichterstattung verwendet. Die "Super Follow" Option könnte künftig nun von Reportern genutzt werden, um Geld für ihre Meldungen zu verlangen. Dies würde die Medienlandschaft sicherlich nachhaltig verändern.

Wann "Super Follow" und die weiteren gestern Abend vorgestellten Neuerungen live geschaltet werden, ist aktuell noch nicht bekannt.
