Snapchat verliert Millionen von Nutzern durch kontroverses Redesign der App

Auch wenn sich mir persönlich das Phänomen Snapchat bislang nicht erschlossen hat, ist die App ohne Zweifel eine der erfolgreichsten aller Zeiten im AppStore. Im vergangenen November hatte man sich dann für ein größeres Redesign entschlossen, welches zu großem Unmut bei weiten Teilen der Nutzer geführt hatte. Inzwischen sind auch die harten Fakten der Auswirkungen bekannt. So hat Snapchat, offenbar nicht zuletzt durch jenes angesprochene Redesign, Millionen von Nutzern verloren, wie aus den aktuellen Quartalszahlen hervorgeht.

So zählt man aktuell 188 Millionen täglich aktive Snapchat-Nutzer, während es im vergangenen Quartal noch 191 Millionen Nutzer waren. Snap CEO Evan Spiegel führte dies dann auch ganz offenherzig auf das Rumoren nach dem kontroversen Redesign zurück. Man werde künftig mehr auf die Nutzer hören und arbeite bereits an den schwerwiegendsten Vorwürfen:

While our Monthly Active Users continued to grow this quarter, we saw a 2 percent decline in our Daily Active Users. This was primarily driven by a slightly lower frequency of use among our user base due to the disruption caused by our redesign.

It has been approximately six months since we broadly rolled out the redesign of our application, and we have been working hard to iterate and improve Snapchat based on the feedback from our community. We feel that we have now addressed the biggest frustrations we've heard and are eager to make more progress on the tremendous opportunity we now have to show more of the right content to the right people.

Ursprünglich hatte Snapchat gehofft, mit dem Redesign neue Benutzergruppen erschließen zu können und hatte dabei offenbar die aktuelle Nutzerbasis außer Acht gelassen. Inzwischen wurden verschiedene der eingeführten Änderungen zurückgenommen. Trotz des Nutzer-Rückgangs konnte Snapchat seinen Umsatz im vergangenen Quartal im Jahresvergleich deutlich erhöhen. Die erwirtschafteten 262 Millionen US-Dollar bedeuten einen Anstieg von 44% gegenüber dem Vorjahres-Quartal.
